Signature Changes at Canada's Currency and Coinage Issuers...

Back to Newsletter index

Both the Royal Canadian Mint and Bank of Canada have experienced recent staff changes, which will lead to autograph changes.

Mintmaster Danielle Wetherup left the Royal Canadian Mint at year's end, apparently over her money losing expansion into the jewellery market.  Her signature, which appears on the Mint's certificates, which accompany most of their products, will have to be replaced with that of the new Mintmaster. According to today's Globe and Mail,  her replacement is likely to be David Dingwall.  An announcement will be made shortly. The Mintmaster's position is usually a political patronage appointment.

Meanwhile, banknote signer Malcolm Knight has left the Bank of Canada for an international position. Knight's departure forces another signature change on Canadian banknotes.  Collectors can anticipate collecting a new signing companion for the banknote cosigner, Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge. We may well have David Dodge and David Dingwall, double d's both, in charge of the currency and coins of Canada.
